The William A. Turner, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund

The William A. Turner, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund of Communities Foundation of Texas provides scholarships to enrolled Juniors and Seniors at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas who are pursuing a degree within the College of Education. One or more annual scholarships will be awarded in the amount of up to $5,000 or $6,000 per student. If the student is enrolled in 9 credit hours or more in a semester, the award amount may be up to $5,000 for the academic year. If the student is enrolled in 12 credit hours or more in a semester, the award amount may be up to $6,000 for the school year. Scholarships may be used for tuition and education-related fees.

Eligibility Requirements
1. Eligible students must be in good standing as a student, and enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours at the University of North Texas as a Junior or Senior in the College of Education. If the student is enrolled in 12 credit hours or more in a semester, the award amount may be increased, as referenced above.
2. Eligible students must have a minimum cumulative college GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale.
3. Eligible students must agree to pursue (attempt to gain) employment in the Texas Public School system.
4. Eligible students must be United states citizens or documented legal residents of the United States.

Selection Criteria
Selection criteria includes scholastic achievement, completion of required essays and financial need.

Applicants are required to complete the FAFSA prior to applying in order to complete the Financial Need Section of the General Application, submit two required essays and provide two letters of recommendation from previous employers, teachers, professors, etc. Scholarship recipients may re-apply for additional funds in future scholarship cycles by completing the full application requirements .

  2. How many hours are you currently enrolled in at your educational institution? (To be eligible for this scholarship you must currently be enrolled in a minimum of 9 hours. Receipt of this scholarship is contingent upon being enrolled in a minimum of 9 hours at UNT during the semesters in which you are receiving support.)

  4. If you receive this scholarship, do you agree to pursue (attempt to gain) employment in the Texas Public School system? In order to be eligible for this scholarship you must agree to attempt to gain employment in the Texas Public School system.
