Wendy Ella Guilford Scholarship Fund

Scholarships awarded to a deserving student who intends to pursue a baccalaureate degree or advanced degree at any accredited college or university in the United States or its possessions. Applicants must be current graduating seniors of a high school in Dallas, Tarrant or Denton County, Texas and demonstrate the vision and values that honor the legacy of Wendy Ella Guilford.

Applicants are required to provide two letters of recommendation and submit a response to the essay question. Finalists will be asked to attend one in-person interview.

  1. Please select one of the following topics and compose an essay of 500-1000 words:
    • Most of us live with a sense of one’s values, but sometimes a situation results in a conflict whereby both values cannot be achieved, e.g. privacy versus security; “though shalt not kill” versus justified war; jobs versus protecting the environment. What overriding ethical precept do you use in resolving these types of conflicts?
    • Choose a period of time before you were born that you would like to have lived in. Explain why you chose this period and what path your life may have followed.
    • What effect has the extreme concentration of media ownership in the US and other countries had on public debate?
