The Elizabeth Abrams Memorial Scholarship

The Elizabeth Abrams Memorial Scholarship is given to honor the spirit, strength and contribution of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Abrams. It is a one-year, $3,000 scholarship for graduating seniors of Plano East, Plano West, Plano Sr. High School or John Paul II High School that were members of the school swim team their senior year. Eligibility & Selection Criteria:
Eligible candidates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale, a minimum SAT score of 1400 (if taken January 2016 and earlier) or a minimum SAT score of 1030 (if taken March 2016 and after), and a minimum ACT score of 20. Selection criteria include scholastic achievement, athletic and community participation, leadership skills and essay response. Financial need is not a strong selection factor for this scholarship.

All applicants must provide 2 recommendations from teachers or counselors and provide an essay response.

  1. Have you been a member of your school swim team in your senior year of high school?
  2. Please compose an essay that is 500 - 1,000 words and includes answers to each of the following questions: 1) What do you feel you have done to make the world a better place, and how do you intend to use your college education to continue improving the world? 2) After reading Lizzie's bio, what traits of hers do you feel you might want to emulate, and as a recipient of this scholarship what would you be willing to do to help carry her legacy forward?
